Animation Sans Frontières

A week from today I will be flying to Stuttgart for the first module of Animation Sans Frontières, the European Animation Production Workshop. Animation Sans Frontières is supported by the MEDIA Programme, and consists of an 8-week programme run by and at, four of the most prestigious Animation Film schools in Europe (that I so admire):
I feel very privileged to have been one of the sixteen European Animators and recent-graduates to be selected, and was very humbled when I saw the blogs and websites of my very talented fellow-participants.
The workshops and lectures will address the international markets and production tools from pitching to line production. We will be shown different case studies as well as visiting different studios. Alongside the finance and production thread, we will also have the chance to develop our own creative projects, have brainstorms, create a project bible and pitch our own ideas. They also put a lot of emphasis in new platforms, formats and technologies.

I am very excited, very flattered and cannot wait to start this new adventure. I will make sure I'll write at least one post for each module/school. So watch this space!

Flick Flip Flick

Flick-Flip-Flick is an innovative project, developed by the Department of Art and Design and the Centre for Fine Print Research at UWE, in partnership with local schools and colleges and Aardman.

To launch the project professional animators from Aardman have worked with the Centre for Fine Print Research at UWE to produce new flick books. These flick books demonstrate a range of innovative techniques including: hand drawn, painted, 3D modelling, stop motion, photography and CGI, the animators have worked with researchers from the Centre for Fine Print Research at UWE to explore new technologies such as laser cutting and UV digital presses. Each new work will be printed as both an A3 print and made into a book and will be exhibited at the Bower Ashton Campus 4 - 15 October 2010.

I am very flattered to have been one of the Aardman animators to contribute to this project. If you'd like to see the flip books have a look at their website and if you happen to be in Bristol why not come to the exhibition opening too? On October the 5th at 17:00 at the Bower Ashton Campus.

Wallace and Gromit's Christmas Stamps

This time last year we were finishing our sculpts and pictures of Wallace and Gromit for what was a very secret Christmas project. Well now the secret is out! This year's Royal Mail's Christmas Stamp Limited Edition includes our beloved Wallace and Gromit, and Andy, Elodie and I had the pleasure of sculpting them and posing them to camera. The Christmas Pudding one was my special one. It was very odd being surrounded by Christmas decorations in September but it will be a great pleasure sending out Christmas cards this year!

More OOglies

My scanner is playing up at the moment and I cannot scan any of my doodles. So, in order to keep the flow, here goes another "Strictly come Grating" sketch.

Chris

Hadn't drawn a portrait in years. Here is my friend Chris watching the Spain-Germany match.

(stubble is always hard to draw...!)

OOglies 2009

This was what I was up to in Glasgow at the BBC last year. I want to put an OOglies reel together, but in the meantime here is my favourite sketch. (Don't mind the rigging!)
